Bamboo Phyllostachys violascens. This bamboo is an enigma always changing colour sometimes striped with brownish purple. Sometimes striped with gold or yellow. Phyllostachys violascens is a Grove forming bamboo impressively robust and a collectors’ plant grown for the unusual colours displayed by the new culms. They emerge very dark violet and mature to brown. In later years, Phyllostachys violascens becomes striped with purple and yellow striped marked variations a, little more than Tanakae.
