Fargesia robusta Pingu from Sichuan in China is taller more upright, and more robust than most Fargesia. Fargesia robusta Pingu is vigorous and very useful for screening. Robusta sports dark green foliage and light green culms, the new shoots are distinctly hairy and rusty red upon emergence from the ground in early spring. These culm sheaths persist from spring through to early summer and soon fade to a light calico, almost white, giving the culms a very attractive checkerboard appearance in.
