Our Policy | |
| |
The Pot and Grass Company is committed to a
policy that promotes and encourages ecologically sound and environmentally
friendly practices that remain within the bounds of sensibility and
practicality. The P&G takes environmental issues very seriously and where
ever possible the company endeavours to reach and maintain the highest
levels and standards. The P&G recognise that due to commercial reasons some
of its practices can not achieve one hundred percent (There would for
instance be little point in trying to write plant labels with a lead free pencil on recycled
paper, they would not last two minutes, so yes we do use plastic.) However we
strive to consistently achieve the high nineties.

Recycling
|
|
| |
The P&G is committed to recycling and where
possible to using recycled materials in its packaging. Be assured your order will arrive in good condition and properly packaged.
With the exception of the delivery note enclosure and the parcel tape, the packaging and void fill should be at
least 99% recycled, reusable and compostable. Don’t be surprised if your
plants arrive in a Vintners claret box with straw filler. (Handy if you have a hamster.)

Fertilizers and Compost
|
|
| |
The P&G uses products from sustainable and renewable resources.
Grasses and bamboos are by nature some of the most efficient and environmentally friendly
plants around and therefore there is very little if ever any need
to use artificial fertilisers.
Fortunately for us there are good supplies of good quality old fashioned farm yard
muck to spread around and organic alternatives available locally. Aaaaah! smell that. Bootiful.

|
Using Chemicals Sprays
|
| |
The P&G specialise in Bamboos and grasses which are as a species, in the most part
resistant to and free of pests and diseases. Most of the problems that are likely to be
experienced can usually be dealt with by good plant management. The P&G
does not usually
endorse the use of any sprays, and in particular chemical spays or insecticides,
However in extreme cases where it is in the best interests to
the plants welfare or a question of the survival of a particular plant we may make an exception. (I.e.
chyzotetranychus celarius- bamboo mite) We will always endeavour to solve
the problem by using the softest option first.

|
Fair Trade.
|
|
| |
The P&G obtain stock from as far field as China. At the
P&G we support fair trade and employment policies particularly in
developing countries. If it comes to our attention that there is an abuse of
those policies by one of our suppliers we would take the matter very seriously.
If the claim of an abuse is substantiated we would cease trading with that
supplier, make the matter very public and report it to the relevant authority.
