Minimum temperature -10C (15 F) Height to 50 cm. (20 inches) Bright dapple shade. Midday shade. Well drained, Rich moist soil.
Globba schomburgkii. Description: Winter dormant with rhizomes remaining underground till late spring when the new growth emerges. This species grows to about 15 inches in height. In summer, the inflorescence emerges from the apical portion of the stem and grows in a pendulous manner. The flowers are tightly packed and is probably the most showy Globba species around. Individual flowers last for about 4 to 5 days and the whole inflorescence flower over a period of about a month It produces many bulbils which drop off in autumn and remain dormant till spring before staring to grow on as individual plants. The flowers harvested with a portion of the stems makes an interesting cut-flower. Habitat: Native to Thailand. (Picture courtesy of Ganesh Mani Pradhan)
