Bamboo Himalayacalamus hookerianus "Himalayan Blue" A rare blue bamboo and only discovered by by Jim Daws a few years ago so supplies are still scarce. One of the most beautiful bamboos. It hails from the higher slopes of the Himalayas and Bhutan making it much more hardy than the species probably as far as -9C. The culms on emergence are blue with a hint of claret or purple, ageing to a pale barley gold. Best in a cool shaded position away from cold dry winds. It is advisable to give some protection when juvenile. Plants shipped before late May may have their culms cropped however they will thow out good new canes in their first season so you will not be disappointed
