Melica altissima atropropurea Siberian Melic. Highly decorative . Native to the thickets and forest border s of Siberia and Central Eastern Europe. A very hardy and useful grass. Mostly upright and animated it blooms from May to end of June. The inflorescence is a narrow terminal panicle that are mauve coloured the covered in a white fluffy down fading to cream in the winter.. It looks splendid when used in bouquets if cut before fully open. Sun or part shade. Moist or semi dry. Summer dormant in very hot weather and self sows freely.
